How to Have the Cleanest Floors

My house smells AMAZING! Not because I have some expensive candles burning or found the best can of air freshener. It is simply because I have cleaned my entryway way and kitchen floors.

Last spring we decided to get rid of our ugly linoleum floors and get laminate wood floors installed. I was extremely excited to have nice floors and change the look of our home. Little did I know that our new floors would require me to clean them DAILY. Can someone say “ain’t nobody got time for that!”?  I wanted my floors to look and stay good, even with toddlers (and a husband), so I knew that I had to suck it up and clean them daily.

The first place I looked to figure out how to clean laminate wood was Pinterest (duh!). I found a video of a woman who suggested using a large spray bottle and filling it with a 1/4 cup of white vinegar and filling the remainder with warm water. She suggested spot cleaning the floor, spraying one area and then mopping it.  I gave that a try and found that streaks were left all over the floor, so I wiped over the floor with a microfiber towel, which got rid of the streaks. I have cleaned the floors on my hands and knees with the spray bottle and microfiber towel ever since. My husband, however, has an issue with the solution that I use. He complains of the vinegar smell that lingers after cleaning. It has never bother me, but today, I came up with an idea to solve our little problem.

I was recently introduced to the use of essential oils. After learning about them I purchased a couple, one being the OnGuard Blend by DoTerra. OnGuard is a blend of natural oils: wild orange, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary. Mmm….together they smell like Christmas! The blend is a natural support of healthy immune function. It can be used in many ways, including topically on surfaces, acting as a disinfectant.

I added only five drops to pre-filled spray bottle. Not much is needed, as the oil is extremely potent. I then cleaned the floors like I normally do and my, what a difference I saw in the sheen of the floors and the removal of dirt and marks! Not to mention, the aroma that filled the house was heavenly! It felt so good to know that not only were my floors clean, but they were cleaned with natural and non-toxic ingredients.

With this oil, I can eat my food right off the floor (or not)!
