One Saturday morning I woke up, made my pancake batter and realized, “I don’t have any syrup!” I did not want to go to a store and buy a bottle. The kids were anxious for breakfast and nearing a meltdown when I remembered my mom telling me stories of my grandfather making syrup from scratch. To my luck I had all the ingredients for a simple cinnamon vanilla syrup. Try the easy recipe on pancakes, waffles, french toast, or any item you want to sweeten!

syrup

Ingredients

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup organic sugar

1 cup water

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

Combine and whisk both sugars and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Allow to simmer. Add vanilla and cinnamon. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes before serving. What’s not used can be stored in an air-tight container in your refrigerator for your next brunch.
