I have lived in Columbus now for nine years. For four and a half of those years I was a student at OSU, where the majority of my time was spent on campus, at work, or church. I did not venture much outside of those places, so once I graduated in 2009, I still felt very much like a visitor to the city. Five years later, I have two toddlers who beg for entertainment and fun activities which has encouraged me to explore exactly what the city offers, especially for families with little ones.

For the next few months I want to explore as much as possible, providing my girls with some fun and educational experiences. I have composed a list of Columbus family attractions in which, with the exception of one, I have yet to visit.

Franklin Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

Events I am Looking Forward To

Family Days | May 24 throughout the Summer

Most Saturdays throughout the spring and summer, starting May 24, Franklin Conservatory and Botanical Gardens will host Family Days, that consist of crafts and activities for the entire family, allowing  everyone to tap into their creativity while building memories.

Zoombezi Bay Waterpark

zoombezibay

Location: Powell

Summers without playing in water or pools is dreadful. Enjoying a water park with 17 water slides, a wave pool, kiddie pool, lazy river, and more, would be an ideal way to beat the heat. I am not a swimmer and my girls have yet to learn, so the fact that there are areas for swimmers of every level of experience makes me not as apprehensive about visiting.

Events I am Looking Forward To

Family Nights | Select Sundays throughout the Summer

For only $15, two adults and up to four children under the age of 18 can attend a Clippers game. Talk about a deal! At the end of games children are allowed to run the bases on the field, as a part of the park’s Fit Fun Run.

Dime a Dog | Select Games

If you have a large appetite and want to eat on a dime, you can literally do that at select Columbus Clippers games. All night long during these games you can eat hot dogs for only 10 cents each! That makes for a really cheap date night or family night!

Pack your car with snacks, blankets, and chairs and get down to the Commons. This year, three kid-friendly movies will be shown at dusk at the beautiful grounds, where you can comfortably sit with your family and view movies for FREE.

Commons for Kids | Fridays, May 30- August 29 from 9:00am-1:00pm

These are FREE events where your children can enjoy bounce houses, crafts brought by organizations from within the Central Ohio community, and carousel rides. The Columbus Metropolitan Library also provides a reading area where children and their parents can relax and read books under the warm sun.
