When life at home gets a little chaotic and I need a way to wind down and avoid mommy burnout and a little relief from my wifely duties, I turn on music. I sit in the rocker in my bedroom with my laptop on my lap and earbuds in my ears and listen to melodies that help to calm my nerves and spirit. During this time I am able to clear my mind of worries and frustration, which allows me to be the best me for my family. This week, my ears have heard the voice of God through the voice of Christy Nockels.
As a worship leader for many years, she has been an integral part of Passion Conferences from its inception in 1997. She’s seen first hand music sweep people into the presence of God in a powerful way. A pastor’s kid, who was born in Fort Worth and raised in Oklahoma, she grew up singing in church. She met her husband, Nathan, in 1993 at the Christian Artists Seminar in Estes Park, Co. They recorded an independent record with fellow worship leader Charlie Hall under the name Sons & Daughters that led to an invitation from Louie Giglio to participate in the first Passion conference in Austin. Christy’s voice gained a national platform when she and Nathan formed the duo Watermark, recording four acclaimed albums before that musical season ended, paving the way for Christy’s solo career. In 2008, the couple moved to Atlanta to become part of Passion City Church where she serves on the worship team with sixstepsrecords labelmates Chris Tomlin and Kristian Stanfill. The following year, Nockels released her acclaimed solo debut, Life Light Up and spent much of the next two years touring with Tomlin and Passion.
On April 28, Christy is releasing her third solo album, Let it Be. Over the past week I have had the opportunity to listen to all eleven tracks and bask in the presence of God. Christy’s southern sounding vocals proclaim many things through her songs, but to sum them all up they say, “Trust God. He is powerful; He is our father and He loves us”.
Song: Everything in You is Mine
“Pry our fingers from the earthly. Oh let us love your glory. Everything is ours, everything is ours in you.”
Because Christ died for us and gave us sonship through His shed blood, we have access to the things our Father has, including spiritual gifts and fruit.
Song: Wonderful Name
“With my heart stayed on you, I will stand in the power of your name.”
There is nothing better than knowing that simply the name of the savior has the power to change lives, turn bad situations into good, and our circumstances into victory.
If you enjoy worship music and worshipping God, this album is one you want in your music library. If you like to dance, there are songs that you will want to turn up and blast in your car or home. My toddlers love music and we had a good time listening to the album in the car as we drove around to appointments, ballet practices, and running errands.
