Getting quality sleep in my house seems to be something of the past. Our preschoolers seem to think running through the hall at 3:00 AM and jumping in our bed is their right. Needless to say, waking up in the morning after having little feet and hands pushed into your back and head all night long can be difficult. On these mornings, the best way to feel slightly energized is to have a great breakfast.
Your next breakfast may earn you a nice lump of money. Quaker® Oats wants all households to kick up their breakfast and to “Bring Your Best Bowl” by creating a unique recipe that shows how they dress up your Quaker® Oats. Doing so gives participants a chance to win $250,000.
I have taken the challenge and created my own bowl of Quaker® Oats, full of items that offer a taste of comfort and one of my favorite desserts–banana nut bread. One of my favorite babysitters as a kid was my great aunt. She is known to always have food and a dessert or two on her kitchen table at all times. The first time I tasted homemade banana nut bread was at her house. I can only imagined how many slices I stuffed into my chunky cheeks that day. Remembering moments I spent in my great aunt’s kitchen inspired me to create a banana nut oatmeal with the Quaker® Oats Instant Maple & Brown Sugar.
Kicking up my breakfast meant I needed to include quality foods that would give me the boost I needed for a great day at home with my children. I can always count on my local Kroger store to have quality food items, so heading there for my bowl’s ingredients was a no brainer. All the items I added to my bowl of Quaker® Oats, from the Simple Truth® Pecan Pieces, bananas and the Simple Truth® Almond Milk, were in or near the fresh produce department at Kroger, which made shopping convenient. The Kroger produce department is so colorful and inviting I know it will absolutely inspire you as you create your own “Bring Your Best Bowl” recipe.
My Bowl: Banana Nut Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal
3 packs of Quaker® Oats Instant Maple & Brown Sugar
1 1/4 cup of Simple Truth® Almond Milk
1/4 cup Simple Truth® Pecan Pieces
1 Banana (cut in half and sliced)
Pour the contents of the Quaker® Oats Instant Maple & Brown Sugar packets into a bowl and set aside. In a small saucepan, bring the Simple Truth® Almond Milk to a boil. While waiting for the almond milk to boil, prepare your banana toppings by peeling and cutting the banana in half. Thinly slice the half and set aside. Once your milk is boiling, pour into your bowl of instant oats and stir to combine. Mix in the banana slices and pecan pieces or place them on top of the oatmeal. Want it a little creamier? Add more almond milk until the texture is what you desire.
