STEM Toy for Girls: GoldieBlox Review | MommyWifeLife

The hit movie Hidden Figures reminds the world that women have and still make huge contributions to the world. Katherine Johnson, physicist and mathematician, was one of several women who played integral parts in helping NASA with space missions, including the orbital mission of John Glenn. Hearing her story made me think of my daughters, who could one day make a similar contribution to the world in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related field. The GoldieBlox Craft-Struction Box, a STEM toy, is designed specifically with girls in mind, are preparing my girls for such work.…

I Don't Always Feel Like Doing the Homeschool Thing | MommyWifeLife

I don’t always feel like doing the homeschool thing and if you’re a homeschooler, you don’t either. I sometimes wish my daily responsibilities were lessened and not homeschooling would certainly allow me to have a little more time–time to tackle all the many things we as adults have to tend to. …

The days leading up to Christmas is exciting for both parents and children. A great way to keep children occupied and during those days is by filling the days with activities, crafts and, dare I say, baking? I have a long list of desserts I’m ready to make with the girls and have already started on daily Advent activities like learning songs, scriptures and the history of Christmas. My girls love to stay busy and often ask to make a craft. I’m not the most creative when it comes to crafting, but I had the simplest idea and answer to their latest crafting request–an easy manger craft made of popsicle sticks. This craft also sparked a discussion about the meaning of Christmas.

My crafts are never fully thought out ahead of time. I am typically scrambling around to find items around the house that will get the job done because I’m no Pinterest queen.…

It’s certain that in order to lead one must be knowledgable, amongst other qualities. How can parents be sure they are providing the best literacy foundation for their young leaders? This resource may be what every parent needs.…

9 Ways to Get Social While Homeschooling

The topic of socialization and homeschooling is always a hot topic. For those of us who homeschool, it’s not that big of a deal because we have learned that there are many ways to make sure our children get adequate opportunities to be with other children and adults outside of our homes. We understand that it is important for our children’s social development and requires us to be intentional about getting social.…

The Columbus Metropolitan Library has made some significant changes to the Main Library on Grant Street and I had the opportunity to get a preview of the changes. The original 1907 building has undergone a $35 million renovation and it is absolutely breathtaking. My visit left me inspired and ready to grab the kiddos to allow them to visit the amazing space and library that is now the newly renovated Main Library.…

For some, making the decision to homeschool is an extremely tough decision. Some make the choice to educate their children at home without wavering. They fly out the gate with vigor and zeal. Some of the parents I have met that aren’t quite sure about what educational experience is best for their children and family often teeter totter because of three lies about homeschooling.…

I am a visual learner. Add a song or music to the learning process and I can almost guarantee you I will remember every bit of the topic being discussed or learned. Teaching pre-k and kindergarten students about science means hands-on activities and a lot of visuals. It sparks a greater interest in learning and removes the monotony of sitting in one place completing worksheets. …
